I took web development classes while earning my liberal arts degree, and my Summer 2019 internship with the University of Cincinnati Press focused on content development for the press’ website. I gained more experience with HTML, CSS, WordPress, and web and content design principles.
Following are three websites I developed or helped develop during my undergraduate career. Click on the previews to open the sites in a new tab.
UC Press
I interned with the University of Cincinnati Press in Summer 2019. My main task was managing content development for the press’ new website. I led weekly meetings with the press team, during which I learned the press’ vision for its site, its target audience, and its content hierarchy needs. I restructured the original site map, which contained 57 pages. I reorganized and consolidated content while balancing press and audience needs with usability. The final site map contained 25 pages. I then assigned tasks and kept the team updated on progress, and I communicated with Supadu, the website developer, about issues and functionality requests.
I also helped create and edit content for usability and accessibility. I helped the press go from zero content to launch in eight weeks. The website was developed in WordPress.
CCCR
The purpose of the Cincinnati Community Cat Resource, or CCCR, website was to educate Cincinnati residents on what community cats are and how to care for them. I developed the website from scratch using HTML and CSS. Students were not allowed to use scripting of any kind. I created, coded, wrote, and edited all the content except for one properly attributed image and one embedded video. The website was coded for responsiveness using flexbox.
Nontraditional
The purpose of Nontraditional was to share my experiences as a nontraditional student. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was unable to create the content I envisioned for this blog. Even so, I gained more experience with WordPress. I customized the theme, added plugins and widgets, and learned about category and tag management. I took and edited the banner, Home page, and Dusty images.
